Welcome to D.I.LI was inspired to start this group after my first visit back to Ghana, West Africa in 2007 (where I am originally from) and met a group of women who had bleached their skin. I didn't understand why one would put their health at risk or permanently change their skin tone to feel beautiful. After I returned I conducted some research and discovered that many other groups of women and men of color domestically and intentionally have bleached their skin for various reasons. That reason motivated me to launch this movement where I can bring awareness to the self-esteem/colorism issue. Dark IS Lovely mentoring was launched in March 2011 with hopes that individuals will be able to understand that there is nothing wrong with having a dark skin tone and that we all should learn how to accept & love who we are. My goal is to help young ladies and women understand that loving yourself is not something that can be taught yet it's something that is learned at a young age. Reject the medias definition of beauty and define your own true beauty but most importantly do not allow your skin tone to determine your worth!
I pray that you are blessed by what you find here on the site and find solace in your own unique beauty. Sincerely, Adoma |
